Many optometrists are reluctant to fit young children with contact lenses. This two-part course aims to address common concerns and challenge perceived barriers to fitting children, while highlighting the benefits that contact lenses may offer young wearers. Featuring interviews with children and their parents, expert commentary, and real patient cases, this course provides a comprehensive look at this important area of clinical practice.
Part one - Considerations for the optometrist, child and family
In the first part of this two-part course, three children and their parents share their experiences with starting contact lens wear and managing it in daily life. We also hear from two optometrists about the process of fitting contact lenses in children and the benefits they can provide.
Part one includes:
- Why we should fit children (including lifestyle, psychological and optometric benefits)
- What age should we fit children? What are the barriers?
- Lens choices (including materials and modality)
- Myopia management and case studies.
At the end of the course you can complete the CPD quiz to gain one non-interactive CPD point.
To learn more about compliance and contact lens care, communication and legal consideration, go to Contact Lenses: Fitting Children, Part 2.
