Welcome to Docet’s podcast Sound Optometry, hosted by Michelle Hanratty, an IP optometrist with 20 years’ experience on the high street and in hospital. Each month, with case studies and in-depth conversations, we will be exploring topics that matter the most to you as optometrists and are relevant for everyday practice.

Episode 22: Corneal Disease - Big problems in young eyes

The podcast starts with an interview with Joshua and his mother Diane. We hear about the discomfort Joshua experienced and the challenges of getting an accurate diagnosis before being treated at the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast where he is still under ophthalmologist care.

Michelle Hanratty then discusses the presentation, differential diagnosis and management of vernal keratoconjunctivitis with Mr Michael O’Gallagher, consultant ophthalmic surgeon and specialist in paediatric corneal disease.

The second part moves on to blepharokeratoconjunctivitis before concluding with an insight into how to best manage children with these conditions.
