Welcome to Sound Optometry, a podcast from Docet hosted by Michelle Hanratty, an IP optometrist with over 20 years’ experience in both high street and hospital settings. Each month, through case studies and in-depth conversations, we explore the topics that matter most to you as an optometrist and are relevant to everyday practice.

Episode 11 - Myopia management - Active not passive

The episode opens with Professor Ed Mallen, who discusses the growing realisation that we are facing a global myopia epidemic, and explores what the optometry profession can do now to help reduce risks for patients.

We then hear from Elizabeth Nutter, mother of Elodie, who shares her decision-making process in choosing myopia management for her daughter. Elodie herself speaks about her own experience so far with myopia management using soft contact lenses.

Later, Michelle Hanratty sits down with optometrist Kathryn Webber to delve deeper into myopia management. They discuss how to identify suitable candidates, offer practical advice on communicating the potential benefits to patients and outline the key steps involved in the contact lens fitting and follow-up process.
